PKS decides to ignore penalties on water bills if the meter is damaged

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) council met on Friday, and it was completed that the penalty should not be collected on consumers, if the water meter died.
Consumers can pay the minimum average amount of the previous bill, and do not need to pay a penalty for the period, if the meter is dead, said Mayor Premanand Shetty.
Opposition Corporator Pravenchandra Alva from Congress said that nearly 50% of the water meters in the city were dead, and many have received bills to the RS 5,000 tone instead of Rs 500.

Opposition leader A C Vinyaraj demanded that the council take delegates to the government, because City Corporation cannot make decisions about revising the water rate.
Meanwhile, the Mayor said the water rate was hiking when City Corporation was under administrative control.
“I have spoken with MLA, and MCC has also sent board resolutions that seek the revised water rate to the government,” said Mayor.
Commissioner Akshy Sridhar said the settlement of the October 2020 council was sent to the government, and a reminder was sent in March 2021.
The Mayor said City Corporation would seek government nod to reduce water rates in the city.
The University status for Fisheries Lecture of the MCC Board has decided to urge the state government to meet the status of the university for college fisheries in Mangaluru.
