PKS rejects the crematorium for pets; Activists seek alternatives

Mangaluru: While the need for pet crematoriums is seriously considered in many countries, animal activists in Mangaluru who are angry after the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) board rejects proposals to build facilities for pet funerals and public animals.
Chennai, too, recently received dedicated pet crematoriums.
Suma Nayak, Guardian of Care Trust Animal (ACT), said, “A few years ago, we demanded a crematorium for pets and animal communities under the city smart project.
We recently requested that the PKS land reserve to the existing crematorium (Hindu Rudra Bhoomi) in the village of Dev.
The land has also been examined by officials.
We only asked about ten cents for animal crematoriums.
We pushed for this after a volunteer, Sujir Ganesh Nayak, offered to donate an environmentally friendly cremation furnace for pets if identifying PKS landed and took responsibility to keep it.
” Suma explained that the furnace, who gained popularity in Kerala, made of coconut shell.
At present, some pets are buried on private property, and the people who live in the flat end up handing remnants to scavengers.
The community for the prevention of cruelty of animals (SPCA), deputy commissioners, and other prominent officials in this district all supported establishing an animal crematorium, he said, added that they would take problems with the Deputy Commissioner of KV Rajendra and PKS Commissioner Akshy Sridhar.
The Mayor of Premananda Shetty stated that the proposal was rejected because no member would support it.
“However, this does not mean that we do not provide dignified funerals for animals.
PKS officials have responded to calls on several occasions when people have reached for them.
People can contact the relevant official for assistance with pet burial or public animal.
We will ensure respectful separation, “he said.
