Nagpur: To provide assistance to residents in financial difficulties because Coronavirus Lockowns, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) finally decided not to apply a 5% annual increase in water rates.
Civic administration has submitted a proposal before the permanent committee, who will meet on July 30.
This was the first time in the last 11 years that the Civic’s body has dropped the water rate increase since Orange City Water Private Limited took over the water supply operation in 2010-11.
TII previously reported that the Commissioner of the Municipality Radhakrishnan B had made a decision despite the fact that the NMC had caused loss of more than RS80 Crore per year from the water supply.
“Decisions will further add losses,” said the source.
The proposal for the Department of Public Health Engineering revealed that the civil heads had assumed the annual increase on April 29, 2021.
Then, Radhakrishnan B turned his decision to remember the Covid-19 pandemic.
The source shows that this is the first time the increase in annual tariffs has been canceled.
Last year, the BJP LED Ruler Alliance had wanted the administration of citizenship not to collect revised water rates.
It also raises problems in public body meetings.
However, the Commissioner of the City of Tamaram Mundhe rejected their request.
The source, however, said the ruling party would take all credit at the beginning of the NMC next year to conduct a poll.
Even in June this year, the Mayor of Dayashankar Tiwari has announced a 10% discount for initial property taxpayers.
