Ahmedabad: With a new coronavirus who claimed the life of two lions at the Chennai Zoo, the center has decided to provide a vaccine developed by the ICAR-National Research Center in Equines (NRCE) in Hisar, Haryana, a shot.
And, Sakkarbuag in Junagadh is one of the six zoos in the country of clinical trials going to be carried out on lions and leopards.
Sakcharbaugh Zoo, Nodal facilities for Breeding Lion, accommodate more than 70 lions and 50 leopards.
The trial will be carried out in 15 animals.
The vaccine will be given in two doses with a gap of 28 days.
Animals will be observed for antibodies for almost two months after the second dose.
Zoo Director Abhishek Kumar said the trial would begin so the center gave final approval.
Officials said the center directed Icar-Nrce to develop vaccines for large cats at the zoo after 15 lions at the Vandalur Zoo in Chennai tested positive Coronavirus in June 2021.
