Lucknow: Starting the outreach of the main farmer, the BJP government at Uttar Pradesh will launch a special impulse to register farmers under the PM plant insurance scheme, the provision of financial cover for plants that are damaged by bad weather.
The seven-day drive, starting July 1, will focus on 75 blocks of development in the state – many of them are dominated by Dalit – where farmers are under low plant insurance schemes.
This step comes in the middle of a prolonged agitation by farmers against a new agricultural law, which reaches political nuances to threaten the prospect of BJP elections in countries, including, where the election of the Assembly will mature next year.
The center has identified eight blocks in different aspirational districts – Bahraich (Sirsiya), Balrampur (Utraula), Siddharthnagar (Lotan), Fatehpur (Hathgaon), Chitrakoot (Ramnagar), Sonbhadra (Bagni) and Chandauli (Niyamtabad) – where Low plant insurance registration.
In addition, the state government has identified Varanasi (Sevapuri), Gorakhpur (Campierdanj) and Deoria (Pathdeva) where the number of farmers covered in the scheme is inadequate.
Additional Chief Secretary (agriculture), Devesh Chaturvedi, said the special van would be sent to rural areas to get farmers who were covered in the scheme in front of their door.
Speaking with TOI, ACS (Agriculture) said a number of insurance companies had advanced for campaigns.
Drive, is scheduled to be marked by the Minister of Agriculture Surya Pratap Shahi on July 1, also coincides with the ‘Bharat Ka Mahotsav’ campaign that is held to mark the 75th independence of the next day.
The center has decided to dedicate January 13, 2022, to the PM plant insurance scheme.
“The first week of July and December each will be dedicated to Kharif and Rabbi plants.
Under the campaign, not only insurance companies but also banks and Jan Suvidha Kendra (JSK) will be engaged to increase farmer participation in plant insurance schemes,” said Chaturvedi , In communiques for all district judges, ACS (Agriculture) has also been handled for the use of social media platforms, including Twitter and Facebook, to project the benefits of the scheme.
He added that the scheme message also had to telecast through audio visual facilities and regional TV channels.
The Ministry of Agriculture has requested district officials to decide on the van campaign route in such a way that the maximum block and Panchayats are discussed.
Officials have also been directed to the camp in the villages and held meetings to assess the progress of the campaign.
