NEW DELHI: A request was registered at the Supreme Court seeking directions to the Centre along with other people to make a committee to guarantee a dignified disposal of bodies found floating in the river Ganga from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

It stated that instructions should be provided to the government concerned to supply safe drinking water for people living nearby river banks to ensure they don’t use polluted water.
The request has sought directions to the government to immediately take suitable measures to conduct door-to-door Covid-19 evaluation or perform medical camps for evaluations in these regions where bodies have been discovered across the river banks to ensure disease may not propagate into others.
It has also sought directions for taking proper measures to vaccinate people living next to the lake banks from this Ganga.
The plea said lots of bad folks don’t have the resources to get a proper burial and the government ought to be made to take stringent actions against those who buy money in the title of doing last rites in crematoriums and graveyards.
It stated that”in order to make certain dignity is maintained during handling of figures, the cremation/burial floor staff has to be sensitised about appropriate handling of their entire body”.
The plea stated necessary security equipment and facilities must be given to the employees at burial and cremation grounds in order they can execute their responsibilities effectively and with no fear or threat.
