NEW DELHI: A plea was registered at the Supreme Court seeking directions to the Centre and four countries, such as Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, to take immediate measures to eliminate the bodies discovered floating in river Ganga amid the continuing tide of Covid-19 pandemic.
The request, that called reports of bodies found floating in river Ganga at Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, advocated that the apex court to issue guidelines or invent a normal operating procedure (SOP) for appropriate and dignified cremation or burial of bodies of victims of coronavirus according to the rituals.
The plea, registered by Youth Bar Association of India, sought instructions to the main secretaries and district magistrates to make sure that no dead person is permitted to be thrown into almost any river on any floor and also to take stern actions against the offenders.
“It is the job of the nation to safeguard the rights of the dead person, which also contains the right to adequate burial/cremation,” stated the prosecution, filed by urge Manju Jetley.
It stated that the Ganga originates from Uttarakhand and leaks down to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal and drifting of corpses from the river could lead to environmental dangers and It’s also in breach of the recommendations of National Mission for Clean Ganga.
The research said the government should be instructed to take appropriate steps for ensuring elimination of figures in the Ganga along with other rivers.
It said the government concerned be guided to prepare a 24×7 toll free helpline amount in each district so the deceased could be brought to the crematoriums about the petition of relatives.
The request also has sought directions to the Centre and other people to stick to the previous month’s recommendations from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in problems, such as about handling of dead cells.
In addition, it called earlier verdicts delivered from the apex court that had stated that Proof of deceased person has to be preserved and respected.
“In both the natural and unnatural deaths, i.e., suicide, injury, homicide, etc it’s the nation that is vested with the responsibility to defend the rights of the deceased and to stop the crime within the lifeless cells,” it stated.
The request declared that”the public police have neglected to create concentric efforts in teaching the masses and assessing the significance of half-burnt or unburnt dead bodies to the river Ganga”.
