PM Modi, Johnson England discussed the climate, terror in bilateral talks

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday held a bilateral meeting directly first with the British partner Boris Johnson on the sidelines of the COP26 climate summit.
Both leaders discuss cooperation in areas such as green hydrogen, renewable energy and clean, economic and defense technology, statements issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
During the meeting, PM Modi congratulated Johnson to succeed in managing COP26 and for his personal leadership in fighting for global actions for mitigation and adaptation of climate change.
“The two prime ministers reviewed the implementation of the 2030 roadmap priority especially in trade and economics, people-to-people, health, defenses, and security areas,” said the statement.
According to official sources, relatively short interactions focus on exchanging views and taking stock of bilateral relations.
“The two leaders also discussed regional and global challenges including Afghanistan, counter-terrorism, Indo-Pacific, the resiliation of the supply chain and post-Covid global economic recovery.
The Prime Minister asserted his desire to welcome PM Johnson in India soon,” said MEA.
The leaders also expressed satisfaction in progress in providing increased trade partnerships including steps taken towards the launch of FTA negotiations.
Johnson should visit India this year on two occasions but both tours were canceled due to Pandemic Covid-19.
