PM Modi Lauds Arunachal’s Airgun gave up driving in ‘Mann Ki Baat’

Guwahati: Clarion’s call from the Pradesh Arunachal Forest Department to deposit Airguns, which is widely used to shoot birds in the state, has produced phenomenal results in just 10 months.
When Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed the nation through the Mann Ki Baat program on Sunday, it was a “charming water delivery campaign” in the state of the border to end the bird’s hunt that attracted the attention of listeners.
Modi congratulated Arunachal people, inhabited by diverse and clear indigenous communities, which are home to around 500 species of birds.
He called the surrender of more than 1,600 airguns in an extraordinary achievement state that has set a sample of voluntary steps to save birds and wildlife.
Forest Minister Mama Natung took the initiative to put the airgun that had emerged as a big threat to wild birds after this permitted weapon became an online and other source that was easily accessible.
Natung launched a campaign from the constituency of his house about 10 months ago but the campaign had received a very encouraging response from the Chairperson of Khanda’s Minister of Separator.
Officials at the Forestry Department said this campaign has shown how changes occur when the mere law cannot prevent people from harming the forests and the environment.
Abhinaav Kumar, DFO Hapoli Forest Division headquartered in Ziro in Arunachal, which contributed significantly to the success of the campaign, said the mission was still in a newborn stage.
“What happens here is more like a domino effect.
People see other people give up and they also appear.
Every day one or two airgun is being handed over,” Kumar told toi on Sunday.
Weapon rules, 2016 in Arunachal were recently changed in 2018 and for the first time AirGun was brought under purview like a license.
However, forest officials feel that deficiency in law is that airguns up to 17 bore do not require licensing.
For some people, keeping airgun is a privilege.
A rifle worth Rs 90,000, valuable ownership, was handed over by one Khyoda Takam, a member of Gram Panchayat from Pearh Village recently for causes of wildlife conservation.
“In this campaign, people voluntarily hand over their airgun – do you know why? So that bad bird hunting can be stopped in Pradesh Arunachal.
Friends, Arunachal Pradesh is home to more than 500 species of birds.
This includes several Indigenous species, which are not found elsewhere in the world.
But gradually, now the number of birds in the forest has begun to decline.
The airgun submission campaign is running now to improve this situation, “Modi said.
