New Delhi: India and Vietnam provide a shared interest in the Indian Ocean region and membership with the UN Security Council when Prime Minister Narendra Modi called his new colleagues Vietnam Pham Minh Chinh.
India will take over the presidentship from UNSC in August.
The official reading said Modi “welcomed the fact that the two countries shared a similar vision of an open, inclusive, inclusive, and rules, and therefore a comprehensive strategic partnership India-Vietnam could contribute to promoting stability, prosperity, and regional development”.
Interestingly, the official statement did not mention “the South China Sea”.
Vietnam refers to him as a “east sea”.
“Speaking on the phone with H.E.
Pham Minh Chinh, Prime Minister Vietnam.
Review all aspects of our comprehensive strategic partnership, reaffirming our shared vision for the Indo-Pacific, and agreed to maintain close cooperation included in UNSC,” Modi tweeted.
This is the first modi conversation with Pham.
The MEA statement quoted him as thanked Vietnam for his support during the second wave of Covid.
Both leaders decided to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2022 in “careful attitude through various warning activities”.
Earlier this week, Vietnam protested again with Chinese steps to send the ‘research ship’ to the Paracel Islands where Vietnam claimed sovereignty.
According to Chinese media reports, the research ship from the University of China will travel to the islands in October.
