NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi tomorrow and inaugurate a slew of projects and address a public meeting with an eye on the assembly elections in the state early next year.
This will be Modi’s first trip to Varanasi this year and could likely mark the beginning of BJP’s election campaigning to retain power in the politically crucial state.
Here are some of the key projects the PM will launch in Varanasi:- International Cooperation & Convention Centre ‘Rudraksh’The Centre, to be inaugurated by the PM, would show a glimpse of the ancient city of Kashi.
108 Rudrakshas have been installed in the centre.
The two-storey Convention Centre, which has come up in the posh Sigra area on 2.87 hectares of land, has a sitting capacity of 1200 persons.
The project aims to provide opportunities for social and cultural interactions between people and develop the city’s tourism sector.

In this convention centre, 108 Rudrakshas have been installed.
The roof of the project is shaped like Shiva Linga and the entire building will glow with LED lights at night.
(BCCL image)‘Rudraksha’, will be a well-equipped convention centre, comprising of the main hall with a full flying tower, a seating capacity of 1,200, a gallery, meeting rooms, and parking for 120 cars.
VCC is also planned to be an environment-friendly building and it will be equipped with adequate security and safety systems, with a regular entrance, a service entrance and a separate VIP entrance.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will reach Varanasi one day prior to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Varanasi and look after the preparations at a public meeting venue and a stage set-up at the Banaras Hindu University.
(ANI image)The Rs 186-crore project will be inaugurated by the PM in the presence of Japanese envoy and Japan International Cooperation Agency official.
Maternal and child health wing, Banaras Hindu UniversityThe PM will also inaugurate a 100-bed model maternal and child health wing of Banaras Hindu University and interact with the doctors to discuss preparations for the anticipated third wave.
The PM will also open a public Regional Institute of Ophthalmology.
A CIPET campus, 143 other rural projectsA Centre for Skill and Technical Support of Central Institute of Petrochemical Engineering and Technology (CIPET) in Varanasi will be opened by the Prime minister during his visit to Varanasi.
The first CIPET campus was established in Chennai in 1968 by the Government of India with the assistance of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
There are now over 30 such centres across with more in the developmental stage.
Another 143 rural projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission and a mango and vegetable integrated pack house in Karkhiyanv will be inaugurated by the PM.
Ro-Ro ferry, 12-floor transit hostel for police, ITI at MahgaonThe PM will also lay the foundation stones for a ground plus 12-floor transit hostel for police at Police Lines, which has been made at a cost of Rs 24.96 crores, an ITI at Mahgaon and projects worth over Rs 8 crore at Sampurnanand Sports Stadium.
A Ro Ro ferry service on the Ganga river will also be opened for the public.
Eight projects of urban development, including water supply scheme priority-I in sis-Varna of Rs 108.53 crores, water supply related work in trans-Varuna of Rs 19.49 crores, two MW solar power plant at water treatment plant Bhelupur of Rs 17.24 crores and sewer line laying in Konia ghat area with Rs 15.03 crores will also be started.
12 projects of rural link roads and renovation and repair of 35 rural roads will also be formally launched.
In all, the PM will inaugurate 77 projects of over Rs 558 crore, lay the foundation of 68 projects of Rs 838 crore along with the Rudraksh centre, all totalling up to over Rs 1,500 crore.
