New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday officially announced the national hydrogen mission, placing truly zero carbon fuel – ‘hydrogen green’ – at the heart of Indian energy security as well as climate action and ensuring investor support policy.
Set the tone for rapid energy transitions in their independence day speech, PM Modi sets the 2047 time limit to become independent in energy through a mixture of electricity mobility, 20% ethanol-blending gasoline and expand city gas networks to increase natural gas share that is not too polluting in the basket of energy India.
“For India to advance, for ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat (Mandiri India), Energy Independence is needed.
India must take a promise that it will be an independent energy in our year celebrating the 100th year of independence,” PM Modi said in his speech to the nation.
“Green hydrogen will give India a quantum leap in achieving its climate target,” said PM Modi, revealing his vision of turning India into the production of global green hydrogen and export hubs.
He said a faster transition for new age fuel is needed to reduce the dependence of the state on energy imports which require annual expenditure of RS 12 lakh crore, or five times the current health budget.
At present all hydrogens consumed in India are extracted from fossil fuels, which emit CO2.
Hydrogen green is produced by perfecting water using electricity from renewable sources and is expected to emerge as a $ 12-13 trillion global industry in 2050.
“Prime Ministerial initiatives can help the industry build a domestic green hydrogen ecosystem worth $ 2-3 trillion in 20-3 trillion 25 Year, “Manoj K upadhyay, Chairman of the Solar Acme Player Group, said.
