Hyderabad: Congress has urged Minister Narendra Modi and Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat to request the termination of the work by the Government of Andhra Pradesh about the expansion of the Head of Pothireddadu to 80000 Cusecs, the construction of the elevator irrigation scheme Rayalaseema (RLIS) to draw 3 TMC water per day in Sangameswaram in Foreshore Reservoir Srisailam and other projects.
In a letter to the Ministry of PM and Jal Shakti, former Minister of Janardhan Reddy from Congress urged them to immediately stop Drawl Air from other projects by the AP government including Muchumarri, HNSS, TGP.
“Drawing water illegally from the Krishna River and supplying it to Ayacut and filling reservoirs including Somasila and Kandaleru located outside Krishna Basin by the AP government must be stopped immediately,” said Janardhan Reddy in the letter.
He demanded that the allocation of Water Krishna must be made for AP only after the requirements of drinking water and irrigation from people living in the river in the Telangana area were fulfilled.
“We humbly hand over that the notification issued by the Ministry of Jal Shakti in connection with the Krishna River water will seize the rights attached to the people who live in the Krishna river basin in the Telangana state in the use of Krishna waters,” he said.
Stating that the Joint District of Telangana namely Mahabubnagar, Rangeddy, Nalgonda, Hyderabad, Warangal (section), Medak (section) and Khammam (section) lying in Krishna Basin, Janardhan Reddy said the percentage of irrigation in Mahbubnagar, Nalgonda was 14.37%, 10, 04% and 27.63% respectively.
Of the total spacious 94.45 lakh hectare cultivation under (7) of districts, the irrigation given was only 18.76 lakh hectares had a large gap of 75.75 lakh hectares without water irrigation.
“The entire population of these districts which include the Hyderabad Metropolitan area that has a 13 million population depends on the Krishna River for drinking water.
Thus, the country Telangana requires more than 1000 TMC water from the Krishna River for irrigation and drinking water,” said Janardhan Reddy.
Every irrigation is used outside the basin, ignoring the claims of the basin itself, it will sooner or later lead to unwanted complications.
Therefore, the AP does not have the right to claim guaranteed water or a surplus for the area to be used outside Krishna Basin and cannot object to projects that are completed, in the process or proposed in the country of Telangana because it is located in Krishna Basin and has the right to used water, he added
