Vatican City: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday asked Pope Francis at the Vatican and discussed with him a problem that included various fields that were in demand, including Covid-19, perspectives and global calm in general.
This was the first one-to-one meeting between Modi’s Prime Minister and Pope Francis, Head of the Catholic Church.
PM Modi is also the first Indian prime minister, Francis has met since become a Pope in 2013.
At the Vatican, PM Modi was accompanied by the National Security Advisor Ajit Minister Doval and the external field of Jaishankar.
The Prime Minister also met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of the State of the Vatican City.
Ahead of the historic meeting, Harsh Variancastial Secretary Vardhan Shringla said on Friday that the Prime Minister would hold a separate meeting with the Pope.
“He will fulfill his holiness with one-to-one basis,” he said during a press conference in Rome.
“Tomorrow, the prime minister will call his holiness, Pope Francis in the Vatican City, and after that, he will attend the G20 session, where he will also hold more bilateral meetings and we will continue to tell you,” said Shringla.
The meeting could, after a certain period of time, was followed up by the discussion of delegation, he said.
“The Vatican has not set an agenda.
I believe, tradition is not to have an agenda when you discuss the problem with his holiness.
And I think we will respect it.
I am sure the problem will cover various fields of interest in terms of perspective and general global problems that are important for all of us , Covid-19, health problems, how can we work together to maintain peace and tranquility and this is something that, I think it will be a common trend in the discussion, “Foreign Secretary added.
