Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated 11 Government Medical Universities in Tamil Nadu.

He also opened the new building of the Classic Tamil Institute (CICT).
New medical colleges have appeared in Virudhunagar, Namakkal, Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Tiruvallur, Nagapattinam, Dindigul, Kalakurichi, Saturniur, Ramanathapuram and Krishnagiri District in the state and will have a cumulative capacity of 1,450 medical seats.
The previous government said the formation of this medical college was in line with the constant efforts of the Prime Minister to promote affordable medical education and improve health infrastructure in all parts of the country.
New colleges have been regulated under a centralized sponsored scheme to build new medical colleges installed with existing district / referral hospitals.
More than 1.5 crore people in this district and adjoining areas will benefit from new initiatives.
Minister of Tamil Nadu MK Stalin and Minister of Health Mansukh Mandavia was present for the inauguration.
