Leigh-on-Sea: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Saturday lay flowers in the church where a parliamentary member was stabbed to death the day before, in what the police said was a terrorist attack may be related to Islamic extremism.
Attack on David Amess from the Johnson Conservative Party came five years after Jo Cox’s murder, a member of Parliament from the Opposition Labor Party, and has encouraged a review of selected politicians.
Amess (69) Pnified repeatedly in an attack around midday on Friday at Leigh-on-Sea, East London, during a meeting with constituents.
The police arrested a 25-year-old British man at the scene because of the suspicion of the murder, said it was believed he acted alone.
In an initial statement on Saturday, the police said the initial investigation had revealed potential motivation related to Islamist extremism.
Johnson, Minister of Home Affairs Priti Patel, and Labor Party leader Keer Starmer was among those who put flowers as award to entertain in the murder.
Johnson and Starmer stood side by side at the moment of silence before leaving.
On Friday, Johnson said England had lost a good public waiter and a very loved friend and colleague.
As a tribute was poured for Amess, politicians described the attack as an attack on democracy, and Patel said security for parliamentarians, known as members of parliament, were being examined and strengthened.
“All steps are being carried out for the security of parliamentarians so that they can continue their duties as members of the selected democracy,” Patel said in a broadcast clip after a visit.
“We live in open society, democracy.
We cannot be stopped by any individual.” In Westminster, where parliamentarians do a lot of their work in parliament, armed police are patrolling.
But in their electoral districts, known as constituencies, more often than there is no security.
Amess was stabbed while holding a one-to-one meeting with voters, open to anyone who appeared.
Tobias Ellwood’s conservative parliamentarians said that while the public involvement was an important part of the work, now there was a big anxiety between parliamentarians, and called for a pause at the meeting.
Patel said Amess was killed by the work he loved, and MPs must be accessible to the public.
“We will continue to stand up with the principles we choose by: to serve our constituents by open, where we have done it, but also recognize that there are safety and protection measures that we must do too,” Patel said.
