PM to open 11 medical colleges in TN in January

Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister M K Stalin will share the stage in Virudhunagar on January 12 for the opening of 11 new medical colleges in the state.
The Minister of Health and the family welfare of the Union Mansukh Mandaviya will also take part in the event, said the source.
This is the first visit of PM to Tamil Nadu after the DMK government led by Stalin assumed the office.
“The state government is ready to open universities because the agreement has been obtained to enter 1,450 seats in this college.
PM (interested) attended the event,” said a source.
The AIADMK government used to get universities allocated for Tamil Nadu under the mode government scheme to establish medical universities attached to existing districts and referral hospitals.
States and state government share costs 325 crore in a 60:40 ratio to establish each medical college.
Ariyalur, Dindigul, Nagapattinam, Krishnagiri, Virudhunagar, Kallakurichi and Ooty College have been subject to sanctions 150 seats, while namakkal, Tiruvallur, Tiruppur and Ramanathapuram each has been allocated by 100 seats.
Aiaadmk has proposed universities in Cuddalore and Kancheepuram too but because of the presence of Annamalai University in Chidambaram and a private medical college in Kancheepuram, the state government cannot get the main approval.
Former Health Minister C Vijayabaskar said the Ministry of Health took the implementation of the scheme of war footing and completed land acquisition and received approval from government institutions quickly.
“It was historic that TN was sanctioned for 11 medical colleges on one hit
