PMAY: 6 years on, not one unit sent

Ghaziabad: Pradhan Mantri Wear Yojana (PMAY) was launched in 2015 with many fanfare.
Six years, this scheme has not provided a single residence unit in Ghaziabad to targeted beneficiaries.
In fact, of the 10,850 units approved in the city, the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) should build around 3,496 units.
However, only 240 had been built under the housing scheme of Madhuban Bapudham until now.
The remaining 7,354 units must be carried out by 12 private developers, namely at various stages of construction.
According to the rules, Rs 6 lakh / unit houses under the scheme, Rs 1.5 lakh provided by the central government, RS 1 Lakh by the state government and the rest by beneficiaries.
“But GDA, for 3,496 units, it has been accepted as a government assistance of only RS 18 Crore from RS 87 Crore to date.
As a result, only 240 units are complete today.
But no one has been given to the beneficiaries,” said an authority official .
“For 3,496 units, government assistance is Rs 87.40 Crore, but GDA is building a flat under PMAY itself in five districts and for a full-off scheme, the number of governments remaining needs to be disbursed at the earliest,” he added.
Five places where the flat under PMAY was made is Maduban Bapudham, Noor Nagar, Pratap Vihar, Newari and Dasna.
The PMAY unit under private builders is also being built at a slow speed.
“Of the 12 developers who will build 7,354 units, working on six projects still have not been taken.
While changes in land use in two awaited projects, sanctions map of the project is still awaited.
In the remaining project, the work has not started despite the approval of the Tata Plan Location, “said the official.
Previously the government had set a target of 36,000 units for Ghaziabad under PMAY, which will be delivered in 2022 but it proved unrealistic after financial problems and others.
So, the target is upgraded to 10,850.
In February, the GDA council agreed to increase the cost of each PMAY housing unit from Rs 4.5 Lakh to RS 6 Lakh.
However, new prices only apply to new housing units and not those who have been in development.
