Pune: Patients who are looking for blood for treatment will soon get it cheaper than the government level because Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has begun steps to establish a blood bank through public-private partnerships.
City facilities as first in the PMC limit will be ready in two months at Kamla Nehru Hospital.
The decision to establish a blood bank was taken to present several purposes.
This will be very helpful in situations such as Covid pandemics and will also be useful for the proposed city medical universities.
“Basic infrastructure for facilities is ready.
PMC offers space and several equipment for the lab.
Such a type of laboratory is obliged to run medical colleges,” said Sanjeev Wavare, a senior official of the Civic body health department.
He said PMC had roamed a private agent to run the lab and it would provide expertise and labor for the lab.
About 2,000 seconds of space are available for facilities at Kamla Nehru Hospital.
According to proposals, blood and various blood components will be given to patients.
PMC officials said the level offered in this lab would be 30% to 40% less than the government level.
“The need for Civic’s blood bank reveals once again after a pandemic.
Blood demand has risen and donors are lacking.
It all caused a crisis situation.
This made the city authority work on the idea to start the bank itself,” said a senior PMC official.
He said the blood bank’s mandate for College Municipal had accelerated the process.
This lab is one of the main features for medical education to be delivered at the Civic Medical College.
About 100 medical students will benefit from this initiative.
