PMC intensifies actions against encroachment

Pune: The Civic body has intensified actions against illegal construction and encroachment throughout the city since the first week of August.
Nearly 200 vendors have been removed and 100 stalls were destroyed during the recent drive conducted at Satara Road, DECCAN, Lohegaon and Ahmednagar Road.
Anti-encroachable staff initiated actions against roadside food joints and other companies operating without permission.
The action was also taken as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of Covid-19.
Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials said that some kiosks were placed without proper permission.
In some cases, an additional floor space index or the transfer of development rights has been consumed illegally.
Regardless of the permanent structure, even the temporary structure is destroyed.
The official said labor illness was one of the main obstacles in carrying out actions against illegal construction during locking.
“We have arranged a flying team in 15 ward offices.
About 300 people, including civilian staff and contractual workers, has been pressed into services for drives,” said Madhav Jagtap, Head, PMC’s anti-encroachment department.
