PMOs are misled on the logging of trees in the city, say the Green Crusades

On PMO directives, the state asked MPCB to see complaints about losing green cover in the city.
NMC wrote to MPCB which stated that there was no permission given to cut down trees in Ajni, Futala and Ambazari Garden, which was calculated by sharing satellite images with TOI which clearly showed large-scale destruction in all its fields: Local Institutions had misled the prime ministerial office ( PMO) about the facts raised regarding the logging of trees in the city, activists suspected.
The internal communication series between Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), the National Highway Authority (NHAI) and the Maharashtra (MPCB) pollution control agency), which obtained by groups by activists through the right to information (RTI), has brought forward various gaps.
All began with environmental activists who wrote a letter to PMO, complaining about the destruction of green cover and unsustainable development in the city.
Responding to this, PMO continues complaints to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs which directs MPCB to look into it.
In a letter written to MPCB on March 3 this year, NMC stated that he did not give permission to Ajni, Futala and Park Ambazari.
But against this claim, activists have shared satellite images with TOI which clearly showed large-scale destruction in the three areas.
“In Ambazari, around 70 to 100 trees were cut without permission.
In Futala, Metro Nagpur took permission for 12 but cut more than 100 trees of a warehouse,” said Environmental Activist Kunal Mourya, added that the NMC issued showed notice but did not take more action.
carry on.
In a letter written in March this year, Nhai told MPCB that there were no construction activities started by the contractor.
“All departments provide false information to the PMO office.
Violating its own norms, the central train has begun the construction of 98 flats cut down by trees illegally,” said Mourya.Se per the latest norms of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, for Commercial Development of Railway Land, it is obligatory to obtain an environmental management plan approved by the Directorate of Management of HouseEkneeping Management (ENHM).
Documen revealed that the IMS plan was awaiting approval.
“Nhai and train officials have violated the basic norms of environmental permits.
They failed to take sanctions from MPCB too.
Before distributing the IMS project work, there were no guidelines requested by citizens who were commonly followed by one of the government departments,” said Anasuya Environmental Activist Kale Chhabrani.
When Tii has reported about the IMS project planned in several phases, NHAI has issued a clarification stating that a group of activists have misled residents by disseminating the wrong information.
Now, RTI documents make it proven that the commercial parts of the project are also planned.
“From the agreement, it is very clear that they want to obtain 446 hectares of land for multi-phase projects, but are not mentioned in the DPR.
All work allocation processes are full of weaknesses, violations of guidelines by all authorities, for the reasons known by them,” Chhabrani said.
The norm of the Ministry of Environment further states that for railroad projects, no trees should not be transplanted or not cut down until the “urgency demands”.
“Old trees must be maintained,” he added.
For this, the activists said, “most trees in Ajni are old-fashioned and inheritance.” NMC and NHAs cannot be contacted for their response.
