PUNE: Together with the costs of gas and diesel for an all-time large, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) intends to convert 233 of its diesel-run midsize buses to CNG, officials have said.
Rajendra Jagtap, chairman and managing director of PMPML told TOI that discussions relevant to the conversion was pioneered by Maharashtra Natural Gas Ltd (MNGL) and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).
“We’ve written to PMC and MNGL.
The price of converting the trucks in the CNG version can be retrieved within a calendar year,” Jagtap stated.
On Sunday, a litre of petrol from town price Rs 92.61, the greatest in Pune.
The purchase price of a litre of gas at Rs 101.96.
“The change will make certain that the bus engine existence expands beyond ten decades and also the operational cost declines.
Additionally, CNG is a eco friendly gas and it’ll decrease pollution levels radically.
Our calculations demonstrate that we’ll have the ability to recoup the conversion price in a calendar year,” Jagtap additional.
Currently, while PMPML runs 815 CNG buses, an extra 806 buses are conducted by private contractors to the transportation body.
Furthermore, the fleet is made up of 233 diesel-run midi buses, 327 conventional diesel-run buses along with 150 electrical buses.
“For decades, the civic body’s environmental division was providing help to autorickshaw owners, those that wish to convert their vehicles into CNG, and they are able to easily assist us with the program.
There are two choices — one where MNGL will the conversion for both us recovers from gap in cost and another below that PMC pays for its conversion,” Jagtap pointed out.
The transportation body stated that approximately 40 percent buses will begin plying on city streets from Monday.
