Secunderabad: Along by driving Covid-19 vaccination, the Telangana medical & health department, on Wednesday, launched another drive to manage the Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV) to a newborn, in the Secunderabad Cantonment.
This drive was launched in all urban primary health centers located in Rasoolpura, Bolarum, Piket, Bowenpally, and Trimulryry.
Parents can bring their children one of these centers to take advantage of this facility, said Deputy Dhmo, Raj Kumari.
Outlining the reason for launching a PCV drive, Deputy DMHO said that it aims to protect children from pneumonia, which can be done through adequate immunization and nutrients.
While the cost of PCV doses on the market around Rs 4,000, the state government provides it for free in these centers.
Regarding the procedure followed for the vaccine, the official said, “The first dose will be given to the baby within six weeks after birth and the second dose will be given within 14 weeks.
The booster dose will be given in the ninth month.” “Mother does not need to panic.
It will not suffer from side effects after being given PVC.
Also, Staff Anganwadi and health staff are available to resolve the problems faced by parents, “added the official.
