Bhubaneswar: A 25-year-old hunter on Wednesday was arrested because of Leopard’s claw trading in addition to the teeth and Pangolin scales in the Mayurbhanj District.
The defendant was identified by a special branch of crime task force such as Nanda Bage.
The three kg of Pangolin scales, two leopard tigers, 29 claws and 46 parakeets were confiscated from ownership.
The SHF Sleuth handed over the items confiscated to the Karanjia Division DFO, in accordance with the law of wildlife crime.
Endowed species, Pangolin, only found in hilly forest of rigidity, Coraput, Kandhamal, Raya, and Mayurbukkan in the state.
The scales are polished after soaking in hot water to make various types of ornaments.
This ornament is believed to have healing properties.
Pangolin is the most traded mammal in the world and has a age of 20 years.
One Pangolin can only produce one offspring.
STF has broken the whip on wildlife crimes in the state since 2020.
So far, it has been able to save 11 Pangolin life, which will be traded to international traders through channels.
It has also recovered 13 gading elephants and 46 wild parrots and made 58 arrests until now.
