Margao: South Goa Police have broken the gang involved in more than 10 cases of chain grab across the state.
Goa South SP Pankaj Kumar Singh said that the police team led by Maina Curorim Pi Shivram Vaigankar and Cuncolim Pi Therron D’Costa managed to arrest the defendant.
The police have arrested Mohammed Sarfaraz, 21, Davorlim residents, Ajay alias Rooney (unknown full name), 24, Ponda residents and indigenous people of Bellagacav, to seize the chain.
A Lilesh Lotikar goldsmith, a resident of Borda, Margao, has also been arrested for allegedly buying a stolen property from a thief.
A motorcycle used by the defendant in committing a crime has also been restored by the police.
Police sources said that based on intelligence input, the defendant’s call was being monitored and their movements were tracked towards their arrest.
They have been sent in police custody six days.
Police sources say that gangs will watch women walk alone in remote roads and seize their gold chains, the gold chain stolen will be sold to the goldsmith.
The police were in the process of recovering stolen goods from the defendant.
