Panaji: In a quick operation, Goa police saved entrepreneurs who were kidnapped by Navin Patel from Colvale.
Patel was kidnapped by five people, including former employees, from his shop on Wednesday.
They demanded a ransom of Rs 1 Crore from his family.
Police Goa chased several leaders and managed to track two defendants, who after interrogation admitted that Patel had been kidnapped and locked up in an abandoned building.
DGP Mukesh Kumar Meena said that the five men hatched the plan to kidnap Patel from his shop.
“The incident occurred on Wednesday and immediately to get information, the Goa police began an investigation and a team was deployed under the supervision of senior officers,” Meena said.
“Patel, who was mid-thirties, was safe but was mentally shaken,” he added.
The police have identified the defendant as Virendra Kumar (Bihar), Nishant Mogan (Mangaluru), Manjunath (Karwar), Sujit and Subhashash (Kolhapur).
The defendant visited the Patel store with the pretext of purchasing plywood.
According to the police, Patel was mastered, tied and transported with a white SUV, which was hired.
Then using a stolen cellphone, the defendant called Patel’s wife and demanded a ransom.
“We learned that the phone had been stolen from old cave and used to make calls.
After that we found the location of Virendra Kumar and Nishant along with proof.
We took it and interrogated them.
Interrogating, they told us that Patel had been locked in a building abandoned, “Meena said.
Interestingly, the owner of Mobile Stolen tried to file a complaint of the police at the Old Goa Police Station, but the police chief in charge did not register theft.
Meena said that the police chief had been suspended for not registering this case.
The same stolen phone is used to make a ransom.
“Mogan used to work for Patel and he knew all about relatives and families of the victims.
Mogan and Kumar have been arrested before and the case of vehicle theft was there at the AgaSaim police station.
They threatened him and demanded money,” said DGP.
Goa is still interrogating the defendant to see if more individuals are involved in this case.
The police also tried to find out if the fifth was involved in other crimes and the duration they lived in Goa.
“We verify all the details.
All defendants live in Goa in a different place.
This information is Introduction.
We will verify when they come to Goa and what is their old anteceden.
If the right investigation and quick action is not taken, his life will be in danger , “Meena said.
DGP said that police personnel who solve crime would be appreciated.
He also urged people to conduct a thorough test and verify before hiring workers or keeping people rent.
