Chennai: Tamil Nadu police ruined Haryana-based gangs used to target unmanned ATMs, and looted them using gas cutters and welding machines.
Gang, which is used to travel in a truck, allegedly broken down into many ATMs in several countries including Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.
Diligent investigation, gripping the lost ATM transactions carried out by gang members, led the police to a gang consisting of Sajid, Arshad and Lukman and adolescents from the Nug and Mehwat Haryana regions.
Police confiscated trucks, 45,000 cash, mini-gas cylinders, and their welding equipment.
While the three men were sent to prisons, teenagers were sent to pointh facilities.
Police said Sajid had a similar case delayed by him in Maharashtra.
Arshad was involved in several theft in Haryana.
It all started with a break-in series and theft efforts at the ATM kiosk in Tiruvallur and Arakkonam.
Joint operation was carried out by the police district of Tiruvallur and Ranipet to track the gang behind theft.
On September 15, the gang tried to steal cash from an ATM in Arambakkam.
Based on a special tip, the police team rushed to the place but the gang escaped from the scene after leaving their vehicle near Elavur check-post.
On September 17, Rs 4 Lakh was stolen from the ATM in Arakkonam.
Suspecting the same gang, who had left the car and escaped in Elavur, the police traced the car owner at Andhra Pradesh.
They realized that it was a stolen car.
However, while scanning the last successful transaction conducted at the same ATM, the police found that money had been withdrawn from the same bank account as one of the suspects.
They then collected account holder details from the bank and found that gang members, sajid, had cellphone numbers.
Using it, the police tracked the location of the sajid and found that it fits the location of the robbery offer.
The police also found that Sajid was on a truck near Gummidipoondi and the registration number was also taken.
CCTV camera footage confirmed that he truck had traveled through the three crime spots.
On Friday, the police found Sajid moving towards Gummidipoondi.
The police intercepted the truck and arrested his fourth.
The police said the gang only targeted an unmanned ATM kiosk in an isolated location.
A suspect will enter the ATM and use spray foam in the eyes of CCTV cameras before other people loot it with a gas cutter.
