Nagpur: Urban Cell President NCP Jwala Dhote said on Thursday that the police will change the Jamuna Ganga, the red light area of the city, to Jallianwala Bagh and refer to CP Amitesh Kumar as a general Dyre to ban sex work on site since August 11.
Raje Mudhoji Bhosale, who also came with Dhote at a press conference, extended his support to Ganga Jamuna’s sex workers.
Dhote also pointed to the fingers on BJP to “trigger” the civil war between the residents of Ganges Jamuna and the local population.
Dhote, flanked by Bhosale, the author of Aruna activist Sabane, Sunil Chokhare and others, said that the police would be responsible for the legal and order situation in Ganges Jamuna where residents and sex workers held a protest for two weeks now.
“We have approached the Guardian Minister (Nitin Raut) but he remains unresponsive.
Now, should we go to the doorway to seek intervention and justice?” He said.
Dhote criticized CP for his “left-handed”.
Bhosale, who called Ganga Jamuna’s sex workers as ‘devdasis’, considering that his ancestors Raje Khandoji Bhosale had helped them to bring the god Lord Jagannath to City from Puri between 1770-1775.
“We can’t understand why this sudden drive to close this historic place? People responsible for Nagpur in any official capacity must know the history and facts of this place before taking such drastic steps,” he said.
He said closing locality and his activities without saving thinking for the livelihoods of inhuman population.
Sex workers who attended a press conference demanded a barricade placed in their area deleted.
“Some locals who used to visit brothels were our opponents today,” said a sex worker.
Other sex workers say that CP must contemplate marrying them to government servants to rehabilitate them.
