Mumbai: City police on Thursday said that they had decided to take action on transferring police between districts, which had applied to go to other districts, after six months.
The lack of staff for Bandobast Covid, the upcoming festival such as Eid al-Fitr, Ganpati, Navratri and Bandobast for city selection is the reason for the decision.
The police department has received applications for transfers from 2,200 police in the past eight months.
Speaking of labor shortages, a senior officer said that 6,500 police vacancies in the city were lying empty at the moment.
“Transferring around 2,200 police to other districts and their replacement is great.
Therefore, it was decided at a meeting of the establishment council, held on June 30, the action would be taken at the request for transfer between districts after six months,” the officer said.
He added that the maximum workforce will be needed for bandobast in the city for the next few months.
Last year, 476 Mumbai police were transferred to other districts.
“Every year around 1,500 police at Mumbai Pension Police,” the officer said, indicating the lack of staff.
“When some police want to transfer to any districts, we must check with the regional police supervisor concerned whether they have vacancies or not,” he said.
