Hyderabad / Vijayawada: Simmering tension for the construction of alleged illegal irrigation projects and Hydel power plants is now a snowball into a big battle between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh with both countries using hundreds of police personnel at the Hydel Power Station in the Krishna region.
The tension was palpated in the power plant since Wednesday night it itself as Telangana using special protection force personnel in Pulichintala, Srisailam, Jurgent, and the Nagarjunasagar project to prevent unwanted incidents and closed dam sites for vehicle and tourist movements.
In the counter-step, the AP was too mobilizing the police in Pulichintala Dam in his area.
Although the AP police claimed it was limited to the protection of major installations on the project, the spread of heavy security personnel from the two countries triggered tensions in the region.
The Telangana police denied entering several officials from the AP, including income and irrigation officials from Guntur, at Macherla on the Andhra border, who wanted to give a letter to Telutana Genco officials who asked to stop the hydropower power plant at PulnyChintala and Nagarjunasagar.
Then, in the midst of heavy security, Jamesh Babu, Superintending Engineer, Pulichintala, AP, achieved a hydroelectric power plant located on the other side of the country, and filed a memorandum to TS Genco officials.
Nalgonda digging AV Ranganath and thunder rustic supervisors Vishal Police Gunni was present during negotiations between AP and Telangana officials on the border.
Kurnool Supervisors Police K Fakeerappa said they had mobilized strength on the Srisailam project on the AP side as a security measure and advised people not to come to the reservoir site.
The AP police have increased security to prevent agitation and protest by opposition parties.
Incidentally, this is not the first time Telangana and AP irrigation officials clashed over their rights to Krishna water.
In fact, it was for the third time (2015, 2017 and 2021) in six years that the two countries mobilized large amounts of police personnel in the dam.
Previously, on February 13, 2015 police personnel from the two countries almost came to blow on the Dam Nagarjunasagar website.
The two state officials even filed a complaint of the police in 2017 because they did not release water from Sagar.
Telangana and AP have been in the vetments through the construction of irrigation projects in Krishna, especially Rayalaseema lifting Irrigation schemes (RLIS) in AP and Hydel power plants in Telangana for the past two weeks.
The Telangana Government has written a letter to the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) who complained about the AP government and a case was also submitted at the National Green Tribunal (NGT), who asked the AP government to stop work.
Telangana irrigation officials accused that the AP government did not stop the work of Rlis despite NGT and KRMB orders.
AP is very objected to power plants from Srisailam and other projects, especially Pulichintala, where the water level is only 20 TMCFT and cannot produce power at that level, it is also without taking approval from KRMB.
AP Irrigation Engineer Narayana Reddy released a letter to the Secretary of the KRMB member who was seeking a direct suspension of the Power Plant by Telangana in Srisailam, Nagarjunasagar and Pulichintala.
On June 29, Telangana Genco began a Hydel power plant from two Srisailam units, which objected to the AP government told him to start without permission from KRMB.
Then, Chairman of Telangana Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao directed officials to produce the strength of all hydel power stations to full capacity.
Following orders from the Department of Energy, GENCO increases capacity by operating further units in the Srisailam project, Nagarjunagar, PulnyChintala, and Jura.
“We will increase Hydel power plants depending on the availability of water and inflows,” said Director of Telangana Genco (Hydel) Chenkata Rajam to TOI.
Denied AP claims that Telangana could not produce Hydel power, Energy Minister Telangana G Jagadish Reddy said the Srisailam project was built for the generation of hydel strength and not for irrigation.
