Coimbatore: The pongal celebration seems to be lagging behind a large number of garbage on the streets of the city and the body of the Civic has collected 500 tons more waste than usually in the last four days.
The official City Corporation company said at 1,000 tons a day, the number had soared with other 100 tons during a pongal celebration.
He said additional vehicles and Earthmover were used to collect garbage.
