Poor nutritional status increases covid mortality

Kolkata: Nutritional status of patients Covid-19 is associated with the results of care and mortality, according to a study conducted at the city hospital.
Studies reviewed by peer-to-be-reviewed-reviewed worse nutritional status, the worse clinical results.
The study also shows more deaths among patients who have malnutrition status.
This has recommended evaluating nutritional status of patients infected with Covid-19 who require hospital care so that this aspect can also be considered during treatment.
Observational studies conducted at Peerless Hospital have surveyed 106 patients over 18 years for this study.
The nutritional status of each patient is evaluated using must (Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool), a screening tool that is widely used in the West.
While the ideal score must be zero, 13 patients scored 1 on a scale must and 22 patients print 2 and above.
However, seventy-one patients passed the test must be.
While 89 patients recovered and sent home from the hospital, 17 of them died.
Of the 17 deaths, 11 have scored 2 and above at a must while someone has a score of 1, the other two have 0 scores.

Of the 22 patients who printed 2 and above at the necessity, 17 were in the age group 50-plus.
From them, 14 had died.
“This kind of screening is being carried out mostly at the Nabh-accredited hospital.
We really feel that more hospitals must make this screening so that in addition to drugs and therapies such as oxygen, the doctor can take care of the patient’s nutritional status,” said the Head of the Dietician Hospital Sudeshna Maitra Nag, who is also part of the study entitled ‘Nutritional Risk Assessment Using Must in Covid-19’ patients.
This study concluded that higher nutritional risks were observed in elder patients and higher scores must be associated with higher mortality.
