VATICAN CITY: Pope Francis on Sunday appealed to Myanmar’s military leaders to permit help to reach homeless, hungry folks who’ve fled fighting as the February 1 coup and to honor spiritual sites as areas of refuge.
Talking at his Sunday blessing to audiences in St Peter’s Square,” Francis said he wished to”put in my voice” into an appeal last week from Myanmar’s Catholic bishops.
Even the pope, who’ve made numerous appeals to the release of political prisoners in Myanmar, talked of the”tragic experience of tens of thousands of men and women in that nation that are homeless and are dying of hunger”.
He endorsed the bishops’ appeal to governments to permit humanitarian corridors so as to find aid to homeless individuals and to honor dinosaurs, pagodas, monasteries, mosques, temples, colleges and schools, as impartial areas of sanctuary.
Even the United Nations General Assembly on Friday called for a halt to the flow of arms to Myanmar and encouraged the army to honor November election outcome and release political detainees, such as arrested leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
