Portland prohibits homeless camps in forest areas in the middle of forest fires

Portland: Portland, Oregon, has forbade the homeless people from camping in wooded gardens to protect them from the potential forest fires and prevent them from starting to start the Blazes during the drought summer and liver breakers.
The city council adopts Wednesday’s rules for “high-risk danger zones,” including in and around the famous Portland forest parks and in wooded and wide wetlands around the city.
The prohibition will apply during the wildfire season or every time a regional combustion ban applies.
8-miles of forest parks (21 kilometers) in the heart of Portland are one of the largest urban forests in the US.
There is a frequency of fire reports in the campsite that are not liked and in the RV group around the city of illegal combustion, Oregonian / Oregonlive reported.
The city stressed that the rule was to prevent fires from the city but also to protect homelessness from Blazes began to close to others.
The non-profit group that works with the city will visit camps, provide information about the risk of fire and help residents move voluntarily before the aggressive sweep occurs, the newspaper said.
“I don’t like sweeping, and I don’t like that we have a lack of housing that people can live in,” said Commissioner Jo Ann Hardester.
“But I can’t stand up and do nothing because people are at risk of dying because of a fire.” Detailed maps of the high-risk areas prepared by Marshal Fire City will help campers know where they cannot live, said Kaia Sand, Director of Root streets, an advocacy group for people who experience homeless people and weekly alternative newspapers.
But he said the solution was “half baked” except the city also provided safe places for the residents who were moved to leave.
“The fact that our city removes people without a good alternative for them to live is always a problem and continue to be a problem,” he said.
Historical droughts and hot waves recently related to climate change have made forest fires more difficult to fight in West America.
Scientists say climate change has made the area much warmer and more dried in the last 30 years and will continue to make the weather more extreme and forest fires more often and destructive.
