Mumbai: Covid Daily Tally Increases in the city and the country on Wednesday even when the state government decided to focus on eight districts where the test level of the test was higher than the average state of 4.5%.
CM UDDHAV Thackeray led two meetings, talking to the district collector and members of the assignment related to readiness for the third wave and possible steps to reduce cases in Kolhapur, Pune, Sangli, Satara, Sindhudurg, Raigad and Palghar.
“We need better contact traces, strict trucks and detention policies in these districts,” said Dr Shashank Joshi, a member of the Covid task force.
“Even though these areas have special vaccination drives, cases don’t fall.” The state reported 9,558 cases and 147 deaths, took a total case with 61.2 lakh and, with the addition of 179 long deaths, tolls to 1,23,857.
Regarding Mumbai, where the case (662) rose after two days below 500, Joshi said “thick tail” was a concern.
“The second wave continues actively in the state, including Mumbai.
Failure to comply with the appropriate Covid norms can see a surge in cases in the second wave itself,” he added.
Nine deaths registered in Mumbai on Wednesday, the lowest in 16 days.
Thackeray said that even though the second wave was not fully receded, the state had taken a calculated risk in opening a business and the district must ensure restrictions implemented to stop the case surge.
