‘Positive’ news about AFSPA requests in 45 days: Himanta

Guwahati: Assam CM Himanta Buswa Sarma on Saturday extended hopes for some “positive developments” for the next 45 days at Nagaland’s request to revoke armed forces (special power) acting as a committee established by the Ministry of Houses or partial withdrawals would be feasible.
Assam, where the law will maturity for updates in March, will take “pragmatic decisions” in consultation with the Ministry of Home Affairs when the time comes, he said.
“Regarding AFSPA, finally Assam will see the rationalization in 2022.
The Army is virtually drawn from Assam, except for five to six districts.
This is a dynamic situation.” Sarma’s statement in Guwahati came on the heel of the Center to extend the law in Nagaland six more months with the effect of December 31.
Sarma, which is part of the meeting that decides to form a panel to see Nagaland’s request, say PM Modi and the Union power department minister Amit Shah has been “very positive”.
Sarma said the tribal militant in its circumstances ended while the solution to “conflict” with Ulfa Paresh recently (I) was on the radar.
“This is a very complicated situation.
But I dare say that we see early from the end,” he said.
