Chennai: India All-rounder Washington Sundar has been tested positive for Covid-19 and is doubtful for the three-match ODI series against South Africa starting January 19.
The 22-year-old Tamil Nadu player was tested positive for the virus in Bengaluru and had not joined the other ball-ball cricketers in Mumbai, which is scheduled to go to South Africa in one or two days.
“Washington has been tested positive for Covid-19 and has not joined other white ball specialists in Mumbai.
He was in Bengaluru (at the National Cricket Academy) when he tested positive,” BCCI source said.
Learned that Washington would not be able to travel on rented flight along with other selected players and it was unclear whether he would be flown individually to South Africa by BCCI later on.
The ODI series against South Africa began in Paarl on January 19.
The second ODI is scheduled to be in the same place on January 21, after which team will travel to Cape Town for the final series.
Washington, who had not been in action since the UK tour last year due to injury, returned to domestic cricket and did it well for his country’s team at the Hazare Vijay trophy, where Tamil Nadu reached the final.
