Washington: After the United States attracted his troops from Afghanistan to end the longest war in history, an influential Indian-American lawmaker said that India and the US could help each other in the war against terrorism.
Indian-American Congressman King Krishnamoorthi said the US had to continue the mission of counter-terrorism in Afghanistan so that it would not be a safe place for terror groups such as ISIS and Al-Qaeda.
“India and the US can collaborate in fighting terrorism in many ways, including through collecting and sharing intelligence, and also helps each other by increasing the ability to act against terrorists and frustrate their plots,” he told PTI in an interview.
Members of the three-term congress from Illinois, Krishnamoorthi are members of the first Indian-American parliamentary members of the permanent electoral committee in intelligence.
“We must continue our efforts in that (against terrorism).
I think it will not only involve India and the United States but frankly, our allies and partners throughout the region, and in other places around the world,” he said as Response to the question.
By asserting that the last American running war now ended in Afghanistan, he praised the troops on duty in the country and said they helped evacuate more than 1,20,000 people from the country in the past two weeks, which must be one of the biggest airlift.
“I think Americans want us to go to Afghanistan after spending 20 years there, trillions of dollars and seeing thousands of American soldiers dead,” Krishnamoorthi said.
However, he said the way in which the US withdrew from Afghanistan needs to be investigated because it can be “handled better”.
“It was said, I thought the majority of Americans and of course my constituents agreed with President Biden, that we should no longer be there, and I am committed, along with many of my colleagues on the other side of the hallway and on the other side of mine, to continue Getting our Afghan partner out of the country that helps us, which works with us and who remain vulnerable to targeted by the Taliban, “he said.
Krishnamoorthi said the US must continue counter-terrorism mission in Afghanistan.
“Even if it’s through the ability of the horizon, we cannot allow ISIS or other groups such as Al-Qaida to find a safe place in Afghanistan.” “As a member of the Intelligence Committee, I will hold the Taliban, but also our own government, is responsible for ensuring that Afghanistan is not a safe place than that triggered the entry to Afghanistan 20 years ago,” he said.
