Bengaluru: Lines Kengeri to see at least 7,476 people use the Metro service on Monday, the first day of commercial operations in the corridor.
Many sigh of relief once they have metro connectivity after a delay of nearly three years.
Lakshmi S, a resident of Kengeri, said: “I do not believe Metro finally operate here.
Before, I used to take an autorickshaw from Mysore Road Station Metro but now almost on my doorstep.” According to BMRCL, Metro ridership of over 1.8 lakh between 7 am and 8 pm, including the 88 148 and 95 387 purple line on the green line on Monday.
This includes parts of Kengeri, projected daily passengers is 75,000.
The first train from Kengeri starts at 7 am and some of the first passengers were greeted with roses.
Vishesh S, a passenger said: “Traveling to the office of Nayandahalli to Indiranagar now smoother, cheaper and convenient.
Better late than never.” While the technician is less because of the setting work-from-home, many travelers are government employees.
Some argue they feel safe and relaxed in the Metro.
However, Kengeri Station parking facilities are not opened so many passengers used the facilities at the nearby BMTC Bus Terminus.
Many of the passengers from KR Puram heading Mysore and Mandya also use the facility.
“It’s easier to take the metro from Byappanahalli to Kengeri and then take a bus to Mysore.
It saves time and money,” said Shivaraj Patil, a resident of KR Puram.
Kengeri section is expected to serve more people, especially those who are traveling to the University of Bangalore (Jnanabharathi campus), Global Village IT Park and RV College of Engineering.
Extension of Kengeri to Challaghatta (2km) scheduled for completion in March 2022.
Kengeri 7.5km section with six stations opened on Sunday.
The journey time from Byappanahalli to Kengeri is 52 minutes.
