Chennai: City police on Tuesday captured around 75 Potter to hold a flash protest near Kalaivanar Arangam, where the state assemblies budget session was underway.
Protesters demanded that the state government relax the restrictions imposed on Vinayaka Chathurthi celebrations and allow them to sell idols they made after investing Lakh Rupees.
Police personnel were deployed to Waljah Silai stopped the members of the ‘Sumakkam Salivaran Salevantan’ member who had gathered near the Triplicane police station holding God’s idol.
When the police prevented them from continuing towards Kalaivanar charcoal, they sat on the road and protested flash for more than 10 minutes.
The police then arrested the demonstrators who were later detained in the community at Triplicane.
Protesters demand that the state government allow the celebration of Vinayaka Chathurthi with small limits and let them sell their idols, because most of them have borrowed money from banks and private lenders to make idols in front of the festival.
