Hyderabad: With increasing power demand, especially in the agricultural sector, electricity purchases have become an expensive affair for utilities in Telangana.
While the cost of purchases to get the power from a private power plant company has been pegged at 23,000 crores for the current year, it will likely up to 26,000 crores in the next financial year I.e 2022-2023.
Telangana State Southern Power Districed Company (TSSPDCL) in its report to the TS Electrical Regulation Commission (TSERC) said discounts needed the procurement of power from a private generator.
Although, the government’s heat power plant has 70% to 76% of their plant load factors, using around 4,000 million units of power from the hydro-electric power station.
The new station will also be assigned the following year such as Bhadradri Thermal Power Station.
Because of the establishment of the state, the demand for power rises mainly due to an unbroken power supply given to all consumer categories, free 24×7 power provided to the agricultural sector from 2018 and for lift irrigation schemes.
Power requests have risen to the top of 14,000 MW maximum of 7,000 MW.
“When the country was formed, the capacity of the Telangana power plant through its own power plant and the central producing station was only 5,000 MW to 6,000 MW.
This has not grown substantially in recent years.
The government was forced to buy power from the state and other stations,” officials said Senior Telangana Transco.
The source said the cost of purchasing power also increased in two years.
“Power costs are 4.65 per kilo clock.
It is expected to touch Rs 4.68 per kilo clock,” said a general manager TSPDCL.
