Power consumption up to 18.6% to 129.51bn unit in August

New Delhi: Indian power consumption grew by 18.6 percent in August to 129.51 billion units (BU) and remained higher than the pre-covid level due to an increase in economic activity amid downs of locking decomposition, according to the electricity ministry data.
The power consumption of the country in August last year stood at 109.21 MU, lower than 111.52 Bu on the same month in 2019, according to the data.
Experts say the recovery of demand and power consumption in August 2021 is consistent and strong.
They have the view that recovery will increase because many countries have reduced limiting locking to increase economic activities after the number of new cases declined.
The only fear is that other pandemic waves can reduce the recovery of this consumption and power demand, they said.
The demand and consumption of commercial and industrial power is affected from April and so on this year because of the limitation of locking imposed by countries to hold the deadly second wave of Covid-19.
There are concerns about other pandemic waves that can produce limiting locking and will have an impact on commercial and industrial demand for power in the country, according to experts.
Demand for peaks met or the highest supply in a day standing at 196.24 gw in August, which was 17.1 percent higher than last year.
Demand for peak power on August 2020 reached 167.52 gw, lower than 177.52 gw in the same month in 2019, showing the adverse effects of pandemic on power demand.
The government has imposed a national lock on March 25, 2020 to contain the spread of the Coronavirus.
The key decreases in a gradual way, but achieves economic and commercial activities and produces lower commercial and industrial demand for electricity in this country.
April 2021 saw year-on-year growth nearly 38.5 percent in power consumption.
The second wave of Covid-19 began in mid-April this year and affected the recovery of commercial and industrial power demand when countries began to impose restrictions on the last part of the month.
Power consumption in the country witnessed 6.6 percent year-on-year growth in May this year at 108.80 billion despite a 102.08 Beg’s low base in the same month 2020.
According to the latest data, the power consumption in June grows almost 9 cents to 114.48 Bu, compared to 105.08 Bu on the same month last year.
Power consumption in July this year grew by almost 9.4 percent to 123.72 Bu compared with 112.14bu in the same month last year.
Power consumption in February this year was recorded at 103.25 billion, compared to 103.81 Bu a year ago.
In March this year, power consumption grew nearly 22 percent to 120.63 billion, compared to 98.95 BU in the same month in 2020.
After a six-month gap, power consumption has recorded year-on-year growth in September 2020, and 11.6 percent in October 2020.
In November, the growth of power consumption slowed to 3.12 percent, mainly due to the occurrence of early winter.
In December, it grew 4.5 percent, while this was 4.4 percent higher in January 2021.
