Power cutting in Punjab to stay until October 13

Chandigarh: The situation of the power supply continues to remain gloomy in Punjab with the state-owned PSPCL utility on Sunday saying up to three hours of electricity outages every day will remain in the state until October 13 Severe coal shortages have forced Punjab State Power Corporation Limited to be cut down by power plants and impose Shedding load.
Because coal stocks run out, coal-fired power plants operate less than 50 percent of their generation capacity, officials said.
While private electricity hot plants have coal stocks up to 1.5 days and state-owned units have coal up to four days, officials said on Sunday.
PSPCL Chair and Director of A Venuprasad said the electrical utility was facing acute coal shortages on all coal-based plants located throughout the state.
A similar situation applies in neighboring Delhi countries, Haryana and Rajasthan and in other parts of India, he further said.
Venuprasad said PSPCL was the procurement of electricity even at the exorbitant level of the market for cater with demand from consumers including the agricultural sector.
The PSPCL meets a maximum request of 8788 MW of Punjab, Saturday, he said, adding that around 1,800 MW of power was obtained to meet the week’s needs at the level of Rs 11.60 per unit from the exchange of power.
Despite procurement such as power, PSPCL will be for load release throughout the country in all consumer categories to bridge the gap between demand and supply, Venuprasad said.
The power of cutting the duration of about 2 to 3 hours every day will be charged until Wednesday, he said.
CMD says at this time, all private coal-based plants in the state have 1.5 days of coal stock, while state-owned plants have around four days of coal shares.
“Yesterday 11 coal rakes were accepted against the total needs of 22 rules.
Because coal stocks were out, this plant operated at less than 50 percent of their generation’s capacity,” he said in a statement.
Demand for electricity from the agricultural sector is still there, he said.
He, however, said that after the intervention of Charanjit Singh Channi’s minister’s chairman, the loading of coal rakes had increased.
With a decline in quantum quantum demand and arrival of coal to build coal shares, the situation will relieve from October 15, he said.
Venuprasad appealed to consumers to use wise strength.
