New Delhi: Powerlifters Jaideep Kumar and Sakina Khatun on Wednesday qualified for the Tokyo paralympics who will come after the world of sports that regulate the bipartite quota to the country.
The world of powerlifting provides bipartite quota to Kumar (65 kg of men) and Khatun (50kg of women), the Indian Paralympic Committee (PCI) said.
Khatun has won bronze in the 2014 and silver Commonwealth game in 2018 Asian Games.
The bipartite slot came as a relief for India after the team of Powerlifting Paris in the country was unable to participate in the Fazza World Cup -dubai 2021 last month due to limiting trips to the United Arab Emirates.
“This is a dream that comes true to qualify for Paralympics.
I have worked hard for the past two years.
Now, qualifications have arrived, I will give the best to win a medal in the match,” said Khatun, who became the first Powerlifter of Indian women to fulfill Requirements for Paralympics.
Jaideep based in Rohtak said: “After we missed the final qualifying event in Dubai, there was a lot of uncertainty about my qualifications.” The bipartite slot has given us a lot of hope and motivation to work towards our destination.
I will definitely fight for a medal in the match.
“Tokyo Paralympics will take place from August 24 to September 5.
