Coimbatore: Minister of School Education Tamil Nadu Anbil Mahesh Poyyamizhi on Sunday met the parents of a 12th grade girl who committed suicide because of alleged sexual abuse by a teacher in Coimbatore.
“A mother has lost her daughter.
As a parent of a girl, I can relate to the state of her mind,” Minister said to reporters after meeting parents.
Noting that such an incident was a big blow to the government’s efforts to get more female students to go to school, Poyyamozhi said private school students and teachers would be educated about the protection of children from sexual violations (Pocso).
“ It is offered in government schools and will now be extended to private schools “he said.
The minister said that there was no delay on the police in acting against the perpetrators.
Within 24 hours, the defendant was ordered based on Act Pocso and then arrested.
The principal has also been arrested and ordered under ACT Pocso, he said.
He said the police verified the letter is said to be the victim who made a round on social media.
Even though it was a letter that was not signed, the police tried to ascertain whether it was written by the victim, the Minister said when asked about the steps taken against the two people mentioned in the letter.
Poyyamizhi asked school students to call 14417 pulse aid channels for any problem or complaint and not using suicide.
Trained staff have been used to help students who want to share complaints that they did not find sharing with parents, teachers, and or friends.
