Bhubaneswar: If everything goes according to plan, the traffic police at the main intersection will immediately sport smart protective equipment (PPE) to ward off air pollution and infection.
Police Komisiance has supplied five pairs of protective equipment to traffic personnel to understand whether the idea is worthy and whether PPE is comfortable to wear.
This has been designed by Startup, Auum Platform, with the Swasner brand name.
PPE comes with facial shields and hoodies, fans operated with small batteries, air filters, and high-quality face masks.
“We have asked our traffic staff to use PPE for a few days.
If they feel comfortable in this case when doing assignments for several hours, we will make bulk purchases.
Our goal is to keep our staff away from pollution and viruses,” said Police Commissioner Saumendra Priyadar.
Sai Sambeet Sambeet, Ayum Chief Executive, said Swasner was designed to filter the air and keep the user’s private room with the protection of KN95, allowing users to breathe purified air.
He added that this kit is equipped with a battery life of more than eight hours.
Traffic police do not face the inconvenience using the product so far.
“PPE has a zipper visor and transparent face access.
The fan helps us get rid of sweat.
The jacket has a utility bag, which is quite useful for sneaking in small things.
During a pandemic, we can do a conversation without contact with riders and violators of rules.
Our voices can be heard clearly outside in the face shield, “said a traffic police.
The capital has around 500 traffic personnel, which are exposed to pollution and inhaling toxic air emitted from the vehicle every day.
To make traffic police look smart, the police commitment has been in 2008 gave them a dirty white uniform, cowboy hat, black belt with frayed edges and dark glasses.
“When they are exposed to pollution, we have conducted regular health screening camps for traffic personnel.
Efforts are being made to increase traffic posts under the City City project,” said a traffic police officer.
Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited is likely to submit the management of smart city traffic to the police commissioner immediately.
