‘Prahladpur Pul across the water logging misery to end soon’

New Delhi: The problem of water moving repeatedly at Prahladpur Underpass PUP in South Delhi will be completed in the next four to five months because PWD takes several steps of improvement, including new development and pump houses to clean water from there, officials said on Wednesday.
According to officials of the Department of Public Works (PWD), the large bah will be made on the site and an additional 800 motor pump for the power of horses will also be installed to remove water accumulated in underpass.
Underpass already has two pumps with a cumulative capacity of 500 horse power intended to clean the area for vehicles.
“The new pump will be able to clean around 60 lakh water per hour and therefore will help a lot in resolving waterlogging problems at Pul Prahladpur,” said a senior PWD official to PTI in anonymity.
“The tender for the project has floated and the work is likely to begin in October.
We aim to solve it in February next year,” he added.
The official said the automatic mechanical bar screen would also be arranged on the bah to clean the garbage stopping the water flow.
“With all the steps of this improvement, we hope to solve the waterlogging problem here in the next 4-5 months.
Our efforts are to ensure that Pul Prahladpur underpass will not be flooded in the next rainy season,” the official said.
Arterial underpass is between 50 PWD critical waterlogging points.
Underpass is located on Jalan Mehrauli-Kokanpur, which is an important relationship between Southeast and South Delhi.
Underpass will be flooded every time it rains and closed for vehicle movements.
PWD officials said the main cause of waterlogging was abundant from the lines of the Delhi Jal (DJB) board.
Underpass is a low bowl-shaped area.
During heavy or moderate rain, the DJB gutter line overflowed and the water began to accumulate in the passage and storm water from the closest colony also came here, an official said.
“We created bah here so that all water will accumulate it on the bah.
With the help of additional high-capacity pumps, we will release this water in the SDMC nallah which is located 300 meters from the site.
This setting will solve the waterlogging problem in the underpass,” said Pwd official .
Last month, Chairman of the Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal said that the city drainage system would be “overhauled” and made “world class” with the help of solutions made specifically for different locations on the steps of improvement taken to solve water misery in Minto Road Underpass.
At Minto Road Underpass, PWD has created a new channel so that storm water does not join the DJB drain in DDU Marg.
PWD has also established nine pumps, sound alarm systems and CCTV for monitoring in Minto Road.
