Kolkata: Former Preman President Mukherjee Abhijit Mukherjee, a former member of the Parliament of the Congress from Jangipur, joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) here on Monday.
TMC Secretary General Partha Chatterjee handed over the party flag to Mukherjee in front of the Lok Sabha Leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay.
Mukherjee joined TMC to come before the assembly of Jangipur, because five other assembly bypolls, speculation triggered that TMC might offer tickets for chairs.
The former MP Congress member said he made a decision because TMC was able to “stop the communal BJP” in Bengal.
He described his anger at the West Bengesh Bengesh Congress for denouncing his party post for the past few years.
Calling CM Mamata Banerjee alternative to PM Modi, Mukherjee said: “Leaders, including many members of the senior Congress, believe that under his leadership and with cooperation from others, we can drive BJP from India.”
