Premature baby 36 weeks, diagnosed with severe immune reactions related to post-covid syndrome, was successfully restored at Pune Hospital after experiencing many complications, including kidney failure that required dialysis, in June.
The baby’s mother has a Covid-19 infection in 14 weeks of pregnancy, said experts, may have led to the transmission of infection to the fetus through the placenta.
The baby was born on May 22, after the baby and mother were detected with a high concentration of SARS-COV-2 antibodies.
The baby’s condition began to deteriorate quickly five days after birth.
Newborn suffered respiratory failure, shocked due to a steep decrease in blood pressure, kidney failure, which requires soul-saturatory ventilator support.
On the brighter side, treatment with antibodies and steroids acting quickly with dialysis dramatically improving the condition of the baby.
The baby registered a full recovery and was dismissed on June 16 after 16 intensive care days at the hospital.
“This is the first case of premature neonates in medical literature to survive multicycle inflammatory syndrome in neonatus (MIS-N) despite acute kidney injury (AKI) who require dialysis in India,” said Head of Neonatologist Sachin Shah from Surya Motherpeciality Hospital in Wakad.
In accordance with the literature report throughout the world, there are only 22 cases with mis-n variable presentations, mortality where above 10%.
“The development of batteries in children is considered as a post-virus inflammation response.
It is not clearly understood at this time.
The general consensus is that there is a storm of the cytokine [abnormal immune reaction] which leads to organ damage,” Shah said.
Some baby blood tests, including D dimers, enhanced shows hyperimun response.
“Even though most newborns, protective antibodies, in some cases, they can trigger abnormal inflammatory response and cytokine storms that lead to quick setbacks from clinical conditions,” Shah said.
“The child is fine and reaches all the developmental milestones,” said the mother of the child.
