Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has extended the issuance of maternity leave to 180 days for female employees who qualified in universities assisted under the Higher Education Department.
Previously, maternity leave was 90 days for this employee unlike their colleagues at the Government College.
Pregnant leave for women employees at the Odisha government office is 180 days.
Women’s teachers at government universities assisted welcome the decision.
“It feels good when you get the same right for the same job.
Extended maternity leave is the right of every woman and help them in focus on their work properly when they rejoice,” said Geeta Rani Pradhan, a lecturer in Odia at a college which is assisted.
However, female employees in college without help don’t get anything.
Pregnant leaves and it depends on management.
Under the benefit law of maternity (amendment), 2017, maternity leave is increased from 12 to 26 weeks.
However, a woman with two or more children has the right to leave 12 weeks of pregnancy.
The state government relaxes the upper limit for work from 32 to 38 for the next three years on Monday.
